Songs you once liked that were ruined by the media?

I love Helden von Heute by Falco but a certain company uses it in all of their ads and now I always have to think of the company when I hear the song and I hate that fact.

Now, please enjoy, because it's actually an awesome sound.

Sunroof by Nicky Youre & dazy. Great song that I still like, but when it came out I loved it. Over time hearing it constantly on the radio for at least a year, though, I began to get a little sick of hearing it.

Big Energy by Latto wasn’t bad. But man, have sonic and ****ing homegoods beat it into the ground. Now I can’t hear it without thinking of ads. Also its extra weird as an advertising choice considering the lyrics are NSFW.

Here's two more I thought of:
  • This isn't exactly a song as it's more of a company "jingle", but I need to bring up KAY Jewelers. They've been playing the exact same ad way too much as of late (the one where the couple falls into the pool). Hey ad execs: not everyone is going to be buying expensive jewelry, let alone afford it up front, so there's no need to play your ad every single commercial break. I'm beginning to get super sick of their jingle solely because of how often they play this specific ad. It was never like this before.
  • Sandstorm by Darude. The meme from around 2016 had been dead for a while, and of course, Wendy's decided to bring it back this year and somehow make it even more intolerable by adding their own lyrics. It's even worse than the "Like a Boss" meme ad they ran in 2015. It's like they haven't learned from their prior mistakes when it comes to the internet community. It definitely wouldn't convince me to get their burgers, as the Wendy's in my town is poorly ran and has been known to make people sick. You know you're doing something wrong when the McDonald's down the street gets tons more customers and gets orders right almost every time. I'm surprised that location is still getting business, honestly.

Honestly now Mockingbird by Eminem like i love that song alot but tiktok tho ew ew ew and ew.

Same kids be using it for their vids are the same ones who keep bashing him for simply existing honestly ew tiktok ew ew gross.

i don't let the media or anything for that matter ruin things for me. there's some songs i like that are on my super repetitive work playlist and i still enjoy them. i don't listen to the radio or watch a lot of tv either.
i still stand by this but i gotta say i hate how stranger things made people sick of kate bush. she rules, 'running up that hill' still rules, and she has way more bangers in her discography

watermelon sugar by harry styles. i really liked the song until he came out and said what he was referring to 💀

Without even looking anything up, I think I know what that term actually means and it sort of makes me cringe. I won't explain it for the sake of forum rules.

An interesting tidbit from one of the songs I mentioned earlier:

I found out several weeks ago that the former lead singer of Pilot, David Paton, sang a version of the Ozempic jingle that is based off his song "Magic". They even put out a short video of Paton in the recording studio and him briefly discussing the event. This all happened just over a month ago.

Despite my annoyance of the original Ozempic cover, it's actually sort of nice that Paton himself wanted to use his voice for the jingle. The dude knows that he's old and has been semi-retired for a while, so if he was happy and willing to do it, then by all means let him sing it.

I thought of another song. I've enjoyed Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65 for its catchiness and quirky lyrics until its remix, I'm Good (Blue) by David Guetta and Babe Rexha, became popular and my sister played the song over and over in her car. As someone who doesn't like hearing expletives in music, it ruined the original song for me, and now I can't listen to Blue without me going, "I'm good, yeah, I'm feeling alright. Baby, I'mma have the best ****ing night of my life!" Ugh.

Every hit Queen has ever made. They’re all overplayed in commercials now and I’m sick of them.

I've yet to hear a single Queen song in an ad that has majority lead vocals by Brian May and/or Roger Taylor. May's voice sounds somewhat similar to Freddie Mercury's but less polished, and Taylor has a unique raspy voice that I like a lot. John Deacon never sang on any Queen songs to my knowledge (could be completely wrong about this however), but in general, it wouldn't hurt to use the non-Mercury sang Queen songs every now and then. I mean, listen to some of these songs that feature May or Taylor on vocals and tell me you wouldn't use them for something cool:

The last one also features Freddie Mercury doing the first slow verse solo, before handing it off to Roger Taylor. That is one of my personal favorite Queen songs in my opinion.

Well I still do like this song, but its Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga
